Hardrock 100 Recap

Trying really hard not to refer to Hardrock as a race...

With this year’s weather closely matching 2024, both Ludo and Courtney beat their 2024 times and set new Course Records at this year’s edition of the Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run. Charts will be updated later today after all ten of the men’s and women’s races events finish.

Here’s two new charts I introduced as edits to my Western States coverage, inspired by my friend Matt Spears. These are my favorite way to show in-race event progress.

I call these ghost charts, however this year, Ludo and Courtney were chasing their own ghosts.

Weather

As hinted in my intro, the weather of this year’s Hardrock were very similar to those two years ago:

What did this look like through-out the day? Here’s a left-to-right chart of temperatures encountered on Friday:

New this week: I became an amateur meteorologist this week, and created aerial heatmaps to show temperatures and the air quality from above the race event course; this is how temps and AQI looked like yesterday:

Air quality could have been much worse due to the Gold Mountain Fires; luckily the run was still able to happen.

Carnage Charts

To no one’s surprise, Ludo was very dominate all day yesterday. There was a tad of carnage throughout the run; there were three notable drops about halfway in (two at Ouray, one at Grouse), at which point, the podium was set:

The women’s podium was pretty-locked in from the get go; some minor carnage, but really only one drop at Telluride:

I think I should start calling my Rally Charts my Nick Coury charts. Nick was a super steady climber yesterday/today:
